Which modules would you like to have in the left, and which in the right column e.g on the home page?

Go to admin/configuration/templates, then Insert.
Choose Home Page for main controller.
Set Status to enabled.
On the lest column tab add cart and information.
On the right column tab add popular pr. and information.
Set sort order if needed.
Save it.

Go to admin/configuration/home page. On meta tags tab fill in meta title, that is the default title.

One suggestion. Go to extensions/module and disable Developer module, this is unneeded in your case.

Do not try it.
I am going to send you some sql files for testing.
Import images first. Upload them via FTP into the /image directory, then go to admin/catalog/image. That's all.
